How are digitalisation and artificial intelligence transforming the field of criminal law in Europe? How can artificial intelligence be used to improve efficiency and save resources across all areas of legal practice?

Representatives of the Latvian Council of Sworn Advocates participated in an international seminar on 15-16 June 2026, dedicated to the impact of digitalisation and artificial intelligence on criminal law and judicial proceedings across European Union Member States.

Advocates, judges, prosecutors and other legal professionals exchanged experiences on the impact of digitalisation and artificial intelligence on criminal investigations, the preservation and assessment of evidence, the collection of electronic evidence, and the organisation of judicial proceedings. Participants also discussed the risks that artificial intelligence may pose to the legal sector in the future.

The seminar addressed a number of topical issues, including OSINT methods, data encryption, the use of artificial intelligence in the legal environment, and its potential impact on the conduct of proceedings and the future development of court processes in digital environments.

Particular attention was given to practical ways of using artificial intelligence to enable legal professionals to carry out their work as efficiently as possible.

The Latvian Council of Sworn Advocates was represented at the seminar by sworn advocates Raivo Klotiņš, Agne Upīte, Kristīne Grozne-Kļusova and Vitālijs Platpīrs.
